Best commercials of 2006
Posted on December 28, 2006 by Kathryn Regina.
Once in a while a commercial comes along that you enjoy almost as much as, if not more than, the program you’re watching. Smart and creative, these are my picks for the top five commericals of 2006:
Microsoft redesigns the iPod packaging
Milky Way commercial
Carlton Draught: Flashbeer
Folgers: Happy Mornings
Dove: evolution

And the merry bells keep ringing...
Posted on December 22, 2006 by Sarah Eaton.
It's that time of year again...time for the BeTuitive outing to the post office to spread a little goodwill and cheer.
Check out our experience with Operation Letters to Santa this year (and take in our new online magazine--vs. our former format, the e-newsletter).
And happy holidays!

BP takes a step in the right direction.
Posted on December 22, 2006 by David Borra.
Over the years I have tried to follow all of the new and exciting breakthroughs in alternative energy. From solar panels to hybrid cars, each new innovation makes me feel that one day in my lifetime we may start to make things right with our planet and our future. No longer are we as a society simply passing on our problems to the next generation, but trying to take a stand now and reverse the harmful effects of pollution and our enormous waste of natural resources. I try to do my part in this world, but truly enjoy it when I see a major corporation, such as BP (Beyond Petroleum), taking a step in the right direction and making it more and more their main focus instead of an afterthought. Check out BP’s alternative energy website for more information.

Gee...thanks.
Posted on December 21, 2006 by Jeff Sanchez.
Are you forcing that awkward smile out a lot this year at your holiday parties? You know the one...when you unwrap that completely absurd gift.
Adrant recently posted a humorous video from Lowe Ad Agency about all of the awful gifts their employees have received. So remember if you are stumped that gift certificates are always best. Or as in our case here at BeTuitive, our clients have realized that the way to our hearts is definitely through our stomachs.
Enjoy & Happy Holidays!

A Social Search Engine
Posted on December 20, 2006 by Kevin G.
We all know that Google and Yahoo are the king and queen of internet search engines. They continue to flourish while the competitors struggle to keep their heads above water.
I was conducting research on search engines and found a unique engine with an intriguing edge. Though still in development, Decipho is a new engine that offers a personal aspect to searching. Users can filter search results based on “Shop/Services” or “Research/Info” categories or they can create their own criteria and rank websites with a Social Meter.
Let’s say you did a search and found great website deep within your search results, around the 20th result page. Normally it would be a pain to go through all of those results again to find the specific site and bookmarking websites is not always on peoples’ minds. Users can categorize their searches and rank websites. These results are saved and the website link appears in the right margin whenever that search term is entered.
I can tell there will be a lot more coming from this Social Search Engine.

Clock Blocker
Posted on December 19, 2006 by Kathryn Regina.
It's shameful. No one wants to be the "always late" person in their office. But let's face it: waking up is hard. And when the holidays end and the winter doldrums hit it's going to get a lot harder. So what can you do to combat chronic lateness? You can always blame it on your alarm clock. And if you're searching for a new "alarm clock solution," check out the following:
The Zen Alarm Clock--This alarm clock wakes you gradually with a bell-like chime that strikes very slowly at first, and then more progressivly over a 15 minute period. It is less harsh than the traditional blaring alarm, and may make getting out of bed in the morning easier. Or you might just sleep right through it.
Clocky--This one is my favorite. The alarm clock goes off, and then runs and hides in a different place everyday, forcing you to get out of bed and find it before being able to shut it off. It may make you angry, but at least you'll be awake.
The Puzzle Alarm--When this alarm goes off it blows puzzle pieces into the air, and you have to put the puzzle back together in order to shut the alarm off. It's only four puzzle pieces, so it's just challenging enough to wake you up.
The Kuku Alarm Clock--This hen-shaped alarm clock chirps while laying six small eggs. In order to make the chirping stop you must put the six eggs back into the clock--not an easy task when you're half asleep and prone to dropping things.
The Hand Grenade Alarm Clock--This is great if you have a significant other or roommate that refuses to get out of bed. You pull the pin out of the toy-looking hand grenade and then yell, "fire in the hole!" and toss it into the sleeper's bed. In order to get the alarm noise to stop they must get out of bed and retrieve the pin from you.
Read It and Sleep--Slate Magazine's review of the best and worst alarm clocks.

The Red Bow on your Sales Package
Posted on December 18, 2006 by Vinnie Lacey.
In the process of revamping our sales proposals over the past two months, I've had the...ummm, how can I put this nicely...opportunity to review tons of material on writing for a business audience. Turns out proposal writing, like writing for the web or writing out your holiday wish list, is a specialized skill. It's not just a matter of pitching a laundry list of your products and services, but really putting into concise and targeted words how your solutions match your prospect's needs. You did write convincingly to Santa, didn't you?
This is the case in all sorts of sales processes, of course. Speaker and "small business copywriter" Troy White emphasized targeted message delivery recently in his blog about ratcheting up your holiday sales. As Troy makes clear, even with the fanciest of toys and the most glittery wrapping paper--that is, great product and a way to spread the word--you must buttress your sales pitch with the compelling, consistent message that your customer can understand. Sometimes that takes testing and restesting--the same thing we here at BeTuitive emphasize with our clients--in order to maximize consistent return on their publications.
So while I whittle away these last few working days of 2006 refining proposals....errr, I mean providing the human capital that drives a successful literary presentation of our solutions...no, what I mean to say is... giving the straight talk on building your relationships with a custom publication...Ahem. Please remember: It's not just what you say, but how you say it.

ASIMO paves the way to a better, brighter future.
Posted on December 18, 2006 by David Borra.
Today I came across a commercial for Honda’s ASIMO, which stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility. ASIMO according to Honda is “the World’s Most Advanced Humanoid Robot." This new robot, which originally debuted on October 31, 2000, continues to advance and the latest model now has the ability to run. The main function the creators had intended for ASIMO was to be able to assist people who are in need, such as those that are confined to a bed or wheelchair. To me it seems this can really advance the healthcare industry. While some people may fear this advancement in technology, I embrace it and feel that it will really revolutionize the way we live. To read more information about ASIMO go here.

Your Audience is the Seven Dwarfs…it’s that simple.
Posted on December 14, 2006 by Jeff Sanchez.
Design is crucial to a business' communication and overall presence in the market. Whatever the target audience may be, design can connect. If it is doing the opposite and widening the gap…change is in order! The audience is always the number one concern and if your designs -- on the web, in print, in any media -- are not following through, you may find a useful solution by transporting yourself back to childhood and thinking of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
A great article on designdump.com breaks down the user (in reference to web design) as always personifying one of the seven dwarfs -- Doc, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Dopey, Grumpy and Sneezy. I find it to be a great concept and could translate across multiple mediums beyond the web. Anyone can sift their target audience through the seven dwarfs approach and adjust the beauty, function and technology of the design accordingly.
Take a gander and hi-ho-hi-ho it's off to work you go (I couldn't resist)…

Some Holiday Spending Trends
Posted on December 13, 2006 by Kevin G.
Online publication trends are not the only statistics that I am interested in…
I found an article that addresses this holiday season by the numbers. A rising stock market, reasonable gas prices and online companies competing for your buck are some of the many reasons why Americans are projected to spend $150 billion this holiday season; an 8 percent increase from 2005.
What I found most interesting was the concluding measurement of how many celebrators do NOT think they will get what they want this holiday season. Last time I checked, that is what gift certificates are for. You can check out the article here.
